Black guy from the Caribbean, just FYI.
I yell at idiots, mostly social justice ones. Sometimes I yell at other people. Sometimes I don't yell at all.

Some games promote sexism and violence, GTA for example. But you can’t target all video games. Let’s take minecraft for example, okay we have violence bug you can change your skin to be a girl.
Last time I checked, GTA made fun of everyone.
There’s also a difference between depicting violence and endorsing it, which some critics try desperately to ignore, but only when it’s happening to women.
When I say that I play GTA all the time and it hasn’t made me more violent at all, I get an eye-rolling reaction from most educated people who are familiar with video games that it’s so fucking obvious, it’s boringly axiomatic.
I gather from this there’s a different set of reactions if I say I play GTA all the time and it hasn’t made me more sexist at all.
Now, why would that be?
At some point we have to trust that people can tell the difference between fantasy story-telling and reality. If some of these people get tipped over the edge, then it’s a safe bet that a computer game is not their number one problem.
Examining sexist representations in video games is not the same thing as saying video games cause sexism/misogyny. That is obviously ridiculous.
But equally obvious is that sexist media reinforces sexist norms.

You do realize that slightly rephrasing the exact same idea isn’t too convincing?
We need more media that challenges sexist ideas. Apparently video games lag somewhat behind on that, but things are improving.
Based on whose assessment? Because that sure sounds a lot like an entirely subjective judgment.
